During a recent meeting in Beijing, Director Xia Baolong of⁢ the⁣ Hong⁤ Kong ⁤and Macau Affairs Office acknowledged the efforts of ⁤the city’s ⁤environment bureau, recognizing that many of its tasks‌ are important to the people. This acknowledgment came in the wake of⁢ the Hong Kong government’s decision to shelve a long-debated waste-charging scheme. Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan, who‍ met with Xia, briefed him ⁢on the bureau’s progress towards carbon neutrality goals, green transition opportunities, environmental protection, ecological conservation, ‌low-carbon energy, agricultural and fisheries development, as well as environmental hygiene and food safety.

In addition to meeting with Xia, Tse attended the second High-level Conference ​of ⁤the Forum on Global ⁤Action for Shared Development ⁢in Beijing, where ⁣he engaged with Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu⁣ to discuss various ecological ⁤and environmental issues. Tse also ​visited ⁣the National Energy Administration, where he met Deputy Director Ren Jingdong to⁣ explore possibilities for promoting energy cooperation ⁤between mainland China and Hong Kong, as well as supporting the ⁤city’s transition to⁣ low-carbon energy sources. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to environmental and ecological sustainability in Hong Kong.
