Elton John’s Vision Health Update
Elton John recently provided insight into his current health situation concerning his vision.
During an interview with Good Morning America on Monday, November 25, the legendary musician, now 77 years old, revealed that he experienced a significant loss of sight in his right eye this past July. The eye issues stemmed from an infection he encountered while enjoying summer in southern France.
“It really took me by surprise; I can’t see anything at all. Reading and watching anything are completely out of the question,” John disclosed.
When probed about the status of his upcoming album, he remarked that it has been some time since he’s produced new music. “There are feelings of hope and reassurance that everything will be alright; however, I feel a bit stalled right now… heading to the studio for recording feels uncertain,” he shared.
John also mentioned challenges with his left eye’s condition, which complicates tasks like reading lyrics or engaging with visual media. Nevertheless, he is proactively working on improving his sight.
Documentary Spotlighting His Journey
The famed artist was recently featured in a documentary titled Elton John: Never Too Late, co-directed by himself and David Furnish alongside R.J. Cutler. This film highlights various aspects of John’s life and includes a song homonymously titled alongside Brandi Carlile that hit theaters on November 15 and will become available for streaming on Disney+ starting December 13.
In September through Instagram, Elton had previously detailed battling an eye infection impacting his vision capabilities—stating at that time that he had “limited ability to see from one eye.” He acknowledged the healing process as challenging yet progressing slowly but surely: “I’m recovering; however, it’s going to take some considerable time before any sight returns to my affected eye,” said the iconic artist behind “Rocket Man.”
Maintaining Positivity Amid Challenges
Despite enduring these recent health challenges affecting his eyesight, John expresses gratitude for what he has achieved in life while maintaining a positive outlook. “I truly feel like I’m one of the luckiest individuals alive,” he conveyed during GMA’s interview. “I take pride in my attitude towards myself amidst these circumstances—I am grateful every day.”
