Reviving Romance: Insights from Devale Ellis
The Importance of Staying Connected
Devale Ellis recently spoke with PEOPLE about his festive new Netflix romantic comedy, Meet Me Next Christmas, where he shared that sustaining romance is straightforward when both partners are genuinely devoted to one another. He emphasized that he and his wife, Khadeen Ellis, have what he refers to as “a healthy addiction” to their relationship. “I embrace the fact that I rely on my wife,” Devale articulated. “I’m not one of those individuals who claim they can navigate life effortlessly by themselves.”
Even with the demands of his acting career pulling him away at times, Khadeen plays a pivotal role in keeping Devale grounded. “Every single day, we communicate; there’s never a moment when we don’t connect via FaceTime,” Devale noted. “It’s essential for us to share our daily lives and touch base.”
A Long-Lasting Partnership
Devale and Khadeen, both 40 years old, crossed paths while pursuing their studies at Hofstra University in New York two decades ago. They have nurtured their bond over 22 years before officially marrying in 2010 following the conclusion of Devale’s tenure in the NFL and his transition into acting. As parents, they share four children: Jackson (13), Kairo (8), Kaz (7), and Dakota (3).

Commitment as a Cornerstone
Reflecting on the essence of their enduring marriage, Devale stated that genuine desire is crucial for longevity. “There’s no hidden secret; I want this marriage,” he expressed passionately. “I choose fidelity; I choose to be alongside Khadeen—she’s my soulmate.” Their open communication forms the foundation of their relationship—“There is nothing too challenging for us to tackle together,” added Devale.
He further explained how personal growth contributes significantly: “Each day presents an opportunity for self-improvement—not only for your own benefit but also as a means to support your partner.” This mindset simplifies relationships by infusing them with purpose each morning.
Sharing Their Journey Selectively
Their shared experiences are beautifully chronicled on their YouTube channel titled The Ellises and through their podcast named Dead Ass. However, they exercise discretion regarding how much they reveal about family life online.
“What I showcase stems from my desire to display our love story but hold certain aspects back intentionally,” said Devale thoughtfully.
By defining boundaries together before posting any content online concerning theirs lives publicly showcases mutual respect within their dynamic partnership—a practice both find crucial: “As long as we maintain control over our narrative on social media platforms while having fun with it all—we’re succeeding.” Additionally, they aim to present an authentic picture of Black family dynamics rather than adhering strictly to stereotypes.
