Revitalizing Our Focus: A New Era for the Italian Society of Vegetation Science Journal
The esteemed journal of the Italian Society of Vegetation Science (SISV), which operated under the title *Plant Sociology* from 2012 until 2024, has officially rebranded as *Vegetation Ecology and Diversity*. This change is accompanied by a state-of-the-art website launch.
A Reflective Change in Purpose
This rebranding was ratified during a plenary session of SIVS members in November 2024 and aims to broaden the range of scholarly contributions accepted. It encapsulates a commitment to representing an evolving and interdisciplinary approach within vegetation science.
Innovative Initiatives to Boost Engagement
Alongside its new identity, *Vegetation Ecology and Diversity* proudly announces an updated Editorial Board, alongside fresh Topical Collections designed to invigorate research discussion. Leading this effort is Gianmaria Bonari, who takes on the role of Editor-in-Chief after Daniela Gigante’s admirable tenure from January 2019 through February 2024.
Community-Centric Financial Support for Researchers
The SISV has introduced significant new discounts on publication fees for its members, aiming to promote accessibility in vegetation science. Particularly noteworthy are initiatives supporting young scientists; researchers affiliated with SISV who have independently funded their work can now enjoy complete waivers on publication fees. Furthermore, those benefiting from partial funding will receive a 10% discount on article processing charges (APCs).
A Fresh Communication Strategy
A revitalized social media presence will be spearheaded by Giovanni Rivieccio and Michele Mugnai across platforms such as Facebook and Bluesky. Their goal is to curate engaging content that resonates with both current subscribers and potential contributors alike.
Insights from Leadership: The Vision Ahead
The newly launched editorial section further elaborates on these recent transformations, highlighting not only brief biographies about our new Editorial Board but also detailed insights about upcoming Topical Collections.
“It’s an honor to steer *Vegetation Ecology and Diversity* into this exciting chapter,” says Editor-in-Chief Gianmaria Bonari. “Our new title embodies our commitment towards embracing all facets of vegetation science. With fresh Topical Collections at hand along with supportive initiatives targeting early-career researchers, we are poised to cultivate a cooperative atmosphere among scholars in our field.”
“The transition to *Vegetation Ecology and Diversity* signifies a pivotal moment for SISV,” states Simonetta Bagella, President of the organization. “With careful endorsement from our community members, we aim not only to broaden our scope but also enhance global engagement within vegetation studies.” She emphasized pride in introducing measures aimed at nurturing young talent within scientific exploration while extending gratitude towards Daniela Gigante’s previous leadership.”
